The Ideal Spine

The shape below, the dotted line, is what a spine should look like when viewed from the side. It is the most efficient spine shape to support you and deal with gravity. Thereby reducing the stress on your muscles, ligaments, tendons and discs.

  •

                                                                                 Click on the rotating spine.

The closer your spine is to the ideal shape, the less your risk of pain, disability, wear and tear and general spinal complaints.

Just like misaligned wheels on your car, a misshapen spine will wear out faster than an aligned one.

Unless your spine is close to this ideal shape it will always be under increased loads.

  • In the early 1990's the ideal spine shape was published in the top orthopeadic research journals.

This was a huge landmark for the musculoskeletal professions.
Now a large portion of the chiropractic profession is focusing it's attention and research on becoming proficient at restoring peoples spines to this normal / ideal shape.

The CBP® average normal and ideal spinal model (ISM) is a validated ‘evidence based’ model. This model is useful clinically as an outcome of spinal rehabilitative care.
